The Jp-8k is equipped with a flash memory allowing updates of the program
version from MIDI.
1. The Jp-8k might not start up if mistakes are made in the version upgrade procedure or the power is cut during operation. Always comply with the procedure listed below and PLEASE! Never turn off the power during operation.
2. The user data area is used as the job memory during the version upgrade. This means that user data will be deleted. Be sure to make a backup copy of the user data before attempting the version upgrade.
3. The bender and ribbon sensor settings will be lost during the version upgrade. Make the settings again in test mode, once the version upgrade is complete.
4. Also the settings under the setup menu are also lost, such as master tune, and LCD contrast, please reset these.
Identifying the Version Number
1. Turn on the power while holding down [LFO1 WAVEFORM] [1] and [3]
2. The version number appears on the display
3. After checking the number, turn off the power
Update Procedure
NOTE: The Software Update comes with a sequence of Standard MIDI files, there should be eight of these with the file names:
VVV_1.MID
VVV_2.MID
VVV_3.MID
Through to
VVV_8.MID
Where VVV is the Version Number for example 102 is version 1.2
1. Connect the sequencer MIDI-OUT to the Jp-8k's MIDI IN
2. Turn on the power while holding down the four buttons [LFO1WAVEFORM] [OSC1 WVEFORM] [OSC2 SYNC] and [OSC2 WAVEFORM]
3. Press [REC] and on the display appears "Erase Your Data! Sure? [REC/EXIT]
4. Load the file into a sequencer, (Load it in sequence from VVV_1.mid)
5. Press [REC]
6. Play the song, Then "Check Sum:**** >>x [REC/EXIT]"
7. The check sum value number appears at the end of the song, check that it matches the value on the list, Now if the value is different Press [EXIT] and start from step 4. And if this continues to happen, after trying a number of times, then either two things could be wrong.
? Firstly there is a problem with your Jp8k, which you will have to see a Roland service department.
? Secondly the files are damaged, so download them again.
8. If the value is correct, press the [REC] button. Be sure to keep the power on until the display changes from "Now Updating [Keep power on]" to "Completed [Play next SMF]"
9. Load the Files one at a time, in sequence from VVV_2.mid to VVV_8.mid and repeat steps 5 to 8 in the procedure.
10. Once all of the files have been loaded, the display reads "Completed [Play next SMF]" (which I find is strange, room for improvement? New functions I don?t know.) Turn of the Power and go into test mode and calibrate the bender and ribbon sensor and make the factory presetting.
? ERRORS 1) if an error message appears during play of the SMF, turn off the power and redo form the beginning, "MIDI Error! [Power off]
? ERROR 2) in step 7 of this procedure, if [Completed] does not appear
within 32 seconds after pressing [REC] or if the message [Can't Update!]
Appears, then the version upgrade is a failure. When this occurs you must
replace the main board.
